Objective Showcase the flexibility and mobility of the Nox A1s PSG system at conferences to attract potential customers and demonstrate its innovative sleep study technology.
My Role As the VR Experience Designer, I was responsible for developing an immersive Virtual Reality marketing tool for the Oculus Quest 2. My responsibilities included conceptualizing the user experience, integrating Nox Medical's brand identity into the VR environment, developing and scripting interactions and ensuring the technology supported a captivating and informative user experience.
Contributions
Environment Adaptation While the foundational VR environments utilized premade assets, I customized these by adjusting polycount and texture sizes to optimize performance. I was responsible for lighting, setting the mood, and staging all levels using these assets. Notably, I designed the clinical and home settings to reflect the modern, minimalistic aesthetic required for the project.
Technical Consulting I advised the client on selecting the most suitable hardware and setup for the VR installation. This included recommendations for maintaining a wireless experience, such as using the Elite Strap with Battery Pack for the Oculus Quest 2 to ensure extended usage time at conferences.
Gameplay Development I innovated the concept of a guided VR narrative, where users experience the flexibility of the Nox A1s PSG system in both clinical and home settings. Interactive elements were designed to allow users to trigger actions such as sending the patient to sleep and switching between environments, enhancing engagement and understanding.
Client Collaboration Although Nox Medical provided thematic direction and basic requirements, my role was crucial in bringing these elements to life within the VR environment, ensuring they were effectively integrated into the overall user experience.
Technologies Used
Unreal Engine 5 Utilized for the main game development, allowing for the creation of immersive and interactive VR environments.
Oculus Quest 2 Chosen for its portability and standalone capabilities, ensuring an accessible and cable-free user experience.
Character Creator 4 Used for detailed 3D modeling of the patient avatar, enhancing the visual appeal and realism of the VR experience.
Blender Used for detailed 3D modeling of the Nox A1s PSG devices, enhancing the accuracy and realism of the VR experience.
Substance Painter Employed for texturing the modeled devices, adding depth and visual appeal.
Impact The project significantly increased Nox Medical's visibility at the SLEEP conference, engaging dozens of attendees and sparking numerous discussions about their product. The VR experience provided a portable solution that Nox Medical can now use to promote their product globally. This innovative approach effectively demonstrated the product's benefits, elevating Nox Medical's presence at conferences and ensuring they stood out in a crowded marketplace.
Professional Growth This project allowed me to refine my skills in VR environment design, technical consultancy, and interactive narrative creation. It also enhanced my ability to collaborate closely with clients and other professionals to bring a complex, multi-faceted project to fruition.
